A new variant of the Covid Omicron was suspected to be the reason behind the recently surging numbers in COVID 19 in India. According to the health bulletin, BA.2.10 and BA.2.12 are BA.2 sublineages that have been identified, and numerous old BA.2 sequences have been recategorized into these new sublineages. However, no new cases have been reported associated with any serious outcome.

The bulletin also stated that 12 states have shown an increase in numbers while another 19 states have seen a decline in the total cases. However, in one case the XE variant of the SARS-CoV-2 has been confirmed as the cause by the Indian SARS-CoV2 Genomics Sequencing Consortium (INSACOG).
